Dear hunters, dear friends of Oryxhunt and us!
 
Easter is almost here and it seems like yesterday when it was Christmas! The year at Oryxhunt/Valsdam started quite busy .
 
We removed the huge Prosopistree infront the garages at last because it was slowly killing to many other plants in a huge radius around it and started looking really shaggy itself! Now the new trees must just grow fast as the yard looks a little empty and bare….
 
We also built a braai/ a grill to have those popular grillevenings outside. It is built like that that the westwind is kept at bay in winter! All of you coming this year still will enjoy it!
 
Regarding our Bonsmarabreeding we lost about 20 calves to leopards so far this year. Two of the culprits we managed to get. Re. Leopardhunting there are now ( luckily) very strict rules in place. For more details check it out at www.napha.com.na . The leopardhunts do open officially again on 1st July this year if I am not misinformed. We hope that these rules leave little place for loopholes for those that hunt unethically. Hunting with dogs on leopard is totally forbidden.
We did not have enough rain on Valdam as yet but we still hope for more…We try not to listen to the doomprophets…
 
Otherwhise Namibia has a huge influx of Chinese. They are mainly active in the building sector and do get most jobs from the government. It now pays that they stood by our black leaders during the "liberationstruggle"…Some say there are double as much Chinese in the country as there are germans who are here in the 3rd and 4th generation. No exact figures are given at any time. In one of the last newspapers it read that we have a figure of 50% people having no work in this country. The Chinese mainly employ their own people but the citizens ( the majority that is) still vote for the governing party who allows these things to happen. It is probably wise not to try and understand politics as you might go nuts!
 
For today we want to wish you all a Happy Easter and may you be surrounded by happy positive people! We will be on the farm celebrating with mum and dad from the Cape and my brother from Tanzania. I think it will be real nice. In that sense we greet you and send our best of wishes!

Liebe Jäger, liebe Freunde von Oryxhunt und uns!
 
Nun ist Ostern fast da obwohl ja noch vor "Kurzem"Weihnachten war….. Das Jahr hat für Valsdam mit viel Leben und Turbulenz angefangen- es war einfach immer viel los! Den großen Prosopis vorm Haus, bzw. vor den Garagen haben wir rausgeholt denn seine Wurzeln zerstörten immer mehr den schon schwer wachsenden Garten.
Nun sieht der Hof recht kahl aus und die neuen Bäume müssen schnell wachsen…
 
Einen "Grill" haben wir gebaut und er ist fast fertig…so, alle die jetzt kommen grillen mit Stil!
 
Auch jagdlich war viel los und bis Ende des Jahres sieht es auch recht bewegt aus!
Was die Bonsmarazucht (Rinderzucht) anbetrifft, haben wir bis dato i.d. Jahr 20 Kälber verloren durch Leopard. Zwei der Räuber konnten wir erwischen.
 
Was die Leopardenjagd angeht, so geht diese wieder im Juli des Jahres mit SEHR strengen Regelungen auf und alle Details sind einzusehen unter www.napha.com.na - dem hiesigem Jagdverband. Hoffentlich trägt das dazu bei dass die Leopardenjagd nun ethisch korrekt abläuft.
 
Genug geregnet hat es auf Valsdam noch nicht bis dato aber was nicht ist kann noch werden. Wieder einmal regent es landweit kleckerweise, aber wie sagt man so schön: DIE HOFFNUNG STIRBT ZULETZT!
Ansonsten drängen sich die Chinesen ins Land und sind im Bausektor schon sehr stark vertreten. Die Loyalität Chinas gegenüber unseren schwarzen Politikern zahlt sich jetzt sehr aus und man munkelt das inzwischen doppelt soviele Chinesen im Land sind wie einheimische Deutsche in 3ter und 4ter Generation….natürlich bekommt man nie eine offizielle Statistik zu sehen.
 
Für die einheimischen Schwarzen hat das viele Nachteile denn die Chinesen beschäftigen fast ausschließlich ihre eigenen Leute. Destotrotz haben unsere Einheimischen wieder für die regierende Partei gewählt . In unserer deutschen Tageszeitung stand kürzlich das die Arbeitslosenrate bei 50% liegt?! Ich glaube man darf nicht versuchen die Politik zu verstehen sonst zweifelt man an seinem hoffentlich gesunden Menschenverstand.
Für heute bleibt uns noch das Eine: Wir wünschen Euch Allen ein besinnliches Osterfest und geruhsame Feiertage! Wir feiern mit Oma und Opa aus RSA und Onkel/Bruder aus Tanzania in Valsdam! Es wird ein fröhliches Suchen und das Gleiche wünschen wir Euch von Herzen!
