You are here: Home - Hunting
Oryxhunt / Ranch Valsdam is a member of the Khomas Hochland Conservancy (KHC). At approx. 120,000 ha the Conservancy includes some 20 farms and aims to primarily promote the controlled use of game and reintegrate certain indigenous game species. |
Oryxhunt primarily hunts on the approx. 8,500 ha of Ranch Valsdam. Hunting season opens from 1 February to 30 November.
We recommend a minimum hunt of 7 – 10 days including arrival and departure days.
|
Single hunters are guided by the landlord. Our guide, Ingo Fillemon, of the Ovambo tribe, assists for groups of two or more hunters. The hunt departs to the hunting grounds from the ranch house in two vehicles (Toyota 4x4s). Non-hunters are welcome to accompany the hunt.
|
Upon sighting the desired game, the hunt itself continues on foot. Hunting from a hide is possible for selected game species. Hunting conditions are ideal in the early morning or late afternoon. We hunt until sunset i.e. approx. 17h30 in winter and 19h30 in summer (hunting by night is not permitted in Namibia). Lunch packs are available if the hunting grounds are some distance from the ranch. |

Upon request, we would gladly assist in applying for a trophy medal from the local Hunter’s Association. Prices are reasonable.
What to bring
|
Although we do have rifles available for rent, we would recommend that you bring your own rifle. Importing a rifle for hunting purposes is a routine procedure and requires that you bring your rifle permit. |
| |
As mornings and evenings can be rather chilly, we recommend that you bring a parka or hunting jacket. Please ensure to bring a light hat with rim (also available here), oil-free sunscreen with a high UV protection factor, light yet sturdy walking / ankle boots. |
